This week's SafeSchools Minute focuses on Propped Exterior Doors.
While an open exterior door may seem convenient, it can unintentionally create an unsecured entry point into our building. This brief reminder reinforces the importance of keeping exterior doors closed, secured, and monitored whenever they must remain open for a specific task.

One of the most common security weaknesses is not a major emergency. It is an exterior door left propped open for convenience. Even when it is only open for a few minutes, it creates an opportunity for someone to enter unnoticed. This week, please make sure exterior doors remain closed and secured unless they are being actively supervised.
What are the most common reasons exterior doors are left open in our building?
Consider deliveries, moving equipment, recess, arrival and dismissal, and maintenance work.
As you walk the building this week, pay close attention to delivery entrances, cafeteria or kitchen doors, recess access points, staff entrances, and any door that has previously been left open. Recognize staff members who are making good security decisions.
As you move through the building this week, pause at every exterior door you pass. Ask yourself:
Is this door secure?
